Using Twitter to Raise Money for Charity AKA Social Media For Social Good – #smc_mcr

Using Twitter to Raise Money for Charity AKA Social Media For Social Good - #smc_mcrLast night’s Social Media Cafe Manchester, the 6 month anniversary of the events was a fantastic reminder of just how quickly social media has gripped the imagination of the British public.

Make that how quickly Twitter has gripped the imagination of the British public.

I attended the Twitter Titters session at yesterday’s unconference-style face-to-face social networking event(!).  There’s more details on the other session by Futuresonic founder Drew Hemment here.

Hosted by Louise Bolotin and Christina McDermott, two thirds of the team behind the Twitter Titters book put together to raise money for Comic Relief through Twitter, it was a fascinating insight into how to use Twitter to raise money for charity and promote a book on the web. You can follow Louise Bolotin and Christina McDermott on Twitter.

Already, there are some great write ups about the session on the interwebs.  Jon Clements of the PR Media blog posts his take here and here’s Democracy PR’s Jennifer O’Grady’s helpful overview.

What follows are my notes from the event:

How We’re Boosting SEO for a FTSE 100 Company

Boosting SEO Using Social Media - a case study by Real Fresh TV

Last week I had a very interesting request from a London-based Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) company.

The company, a well-respected search engine marketing agency called Greenlight requested that I placed a link to two Alliance & Leicester financial products on the bottom of the entry for Alliance & Leicester in this site’s study of social media usage amongst FTSE 100 companies.

The Greenlight representative was also kind enough to offer to compensate me for my trouble.

The Importance of Online Marketing

The Importance of Online Marketing - Social Media Workshop at Bradford Gallery, UK

I had the pleasure of presenting a social media workshop titled ‘The Importance of Online Marketing’ to a group of creatives at Bradford Gallery at the Yorkshire Craft Centre yesterday evening.

Organised by Fabric, the arts development organisation for Bradford as an event for the Creative Bradford programme, it was pretty well attended with at least 30 arts practitioners from artists and animators to photographers attending the 3 hour event. There was even an eco friendly web hosting company!

My slides are now up on Slideshare and are embedded after the jump.

Mobile Twitter Guide – How To Use Twitter From Your Mobile Phone

Mobile Twitter Guide – How To Use Twitter From Your Mobile Phone

What can I say, I leave the country for a couple of weeks to attend my gran’s funeral in Nigeria and I return to find the UK taken over by tweetfiends Twitterholics!

Only kidding of course.

On a more serious note, Twitter is weaving its way into the US Congress, much like it is making its mark on UK parliament.

Lots to say and report on as far as Real Fresh social media projects is concerned but in the mean time, here’s a post I sent to Chinwag’s incredibly active WebTV list on how to set up your mobile phone to use Twitter a while back.

It appears quite a few (non-techie) people are flummoxed about how to set up mobile phones to enable Twittering on the go.

All this talk of helping online journalism students learn Twitter using the (nifty) #twask hashtag inspired me to dig this out from my inbox and post it on the web.

Hope it helps someone.  If you found it useful please tell me why in the comments!
