The Case for Manchester Open Data City and the Joys of Courting Corporate Philanthropy

Social Media Cafe Manchester, February 2010, in progress

Here come my notes from Tuesday’s Social Media Cafe Manchester event at the BBC’s offices on Oxford Road.

I’ve been a big fan of Social Media Cafe Manchester since being invited to be on the ‘panel of bloggers’ at the very first event in November 2008.  Whenever I can I try to blog about each ‘#smc_mcr’ I attend, after the event.

T-shirt: Mark Wigan creation on sale at NOISE Lab

I really enjoyed last Thursday’s launch of the NOISE Lab, a ‘guerilla arts pop up store’ nestled opposite the Orange Shop and next to Boots the Chemists right on the Great Manchester High Street aka Market Street.

Situated in the former Shelly’s footwear outlet, next to Schuh and in prime shopping centre real estate, this incredibly bold 6 month long ‘experiment’ is born out of the national NOISEFestival.com project, an online community where young creatives in film, music, visual arts and many other creative disciplines develop and showcase their (first, in many cases) online portfolio.

Introduction to Social Media for Media Professionals

New Training Course: Introduction to Social Media for Media Professionals

I’m pretty excited about this!  Starting next month, on Wednesday 10th February to be precise, I will be running a new social media training course aimed squarely at the media industry in the North West.

The new Introduction to Social Media for Media Professionals course, designed specifically for digital media professionals considering use of social media within media projects, builds on Real Fresh TV’s success with the UK’s longest running ‘social media for beginners’ course: the Social Media Starter Course.

Along with an assessment of workable strategies for developing multi-platform content, the course concludes with an introduction to the rigours and demands of creating content for multiple platforms.

Read on for details of the course and how to register. (more…)

Social Media Starter Course logo

It’s been a little while since the last Social Media Starter Course but I’m pleased to announce there’s one scheduled for Tuesday 27th October 2009.

Real Fresh TV’s innovative Social Media Starter Course was developed over a year ago and launched in October 2008 as the first dedicated Social Media for Beginners training course in the UK.

It has proven incredibly popular, with academics, marketers, PR companies, photographers and even non-profits attending over the course of the year.

Attendees even requested a more hands-on follow up course, the Learning Social Media By Doing Course which has since been developed.

Here’s some of the fantastic feedback the Social Media Starter Course has received:

7 Wonders in 7 Days Live Music Gig: Hungry Pigeon Festival

Hot on the heels of my announcement of Real Fresh TV’s social media charity engagement of the year: 7 Wonders in 7 Days, comes the first live music event in aid of the charity fundraising trip planned for September 2009.

For those of you who are unaware, 7 Wonders in 7 Days is an epic adventure trip I’m embarking on jointly inspired by my grandmonther’s funeral in February and Channel 4’s brilliant Secret Millionaire programme.
