Episode 9 of the 3 Minute Gig, presented by Matt Panesh and Chi-chi Ekweozor, features four of the best emerging talent at the In The City 2006 festival in Manchester.

There’s talent in abundance: from the exquisite folk of John Smith to the funky jazz folk of Rachael Kichenside plus outstanding stadium-ready rock from Otra Mano and melodic shoe gaze from Palo Alto.

In The City is Europe’s biggest city-based music festival and was responsible for launching the careers of Oasis, Radiohead, Suede, Elastica, Coldplay, The Darkness, Doves, Foo Fighters, Elbow and many more.

The eclectic line up includes melodic indie 5 piece Tripwire, LA’s finest punk goths, The Human Value, local lads Onions and eclectic singer songwriter, This is Chichi.

Matt Panesh is joined by an eclectic cast of performers at the Kings Arms, an award-winning performance space-cum music venue in Salford, Manchester.

There’s stellar performances from Isobel Heyworth, Manchester’s best kept secret (according to the BBC), ivory tinkler extraordinaire, Doug Walker, ‘balladeer for the working man’ Garron Frith and Lost Poets, Geordie hip hop phenomenon in the making!

Doug Walker has since gone on to impress Chris Moyles of BBC Radio 1!

Live from Manchester’s Star and Garter, Matt Wibley and Gabby Sanderson present two critically acclaimed American bands on their first European tour: Riddle Of Steel (St. Louis, Missouri, US) and Roma 79 (San Fransisco, California, US).

There’s also some melodic hardcore from France courtesy of Daitro (Lyon, France).

And last but not least, we give you Jack Ruby, a fantastic instrumental two-piece from Manchester.

Be enthralled by the calculated cool of Josephine Oniyama‘s new century folk, the expressive grandeur of The Boy Lacks Patience (think Ben Folds meets Tori Amos), the fast-fingered funk of Mike Rapheal, crowned Prince of acoustic funk and soul and the amazing new uber-folk experience that is the The Green Tree Riot (formerly known as The Urban Folk Collective).
