*** Breaking news ***
iPhone Giveaway entry deadline extended to 11.59AM Monday 12th November

It’s now less than 12 hours till the entry deadline for the first British iPhone giveaway and I can’t help feeling that closing the competition at 11:59AM on ‘iPhone Day UK’, over 6 hours before the iPhone goes on sale in shops is a bit of an anti-climax.

So… I’ve decided to extend the deadline by 72 hours to 11:59AM on Monday 12th November to give anyone who develops a serious case of iPhone envy over the weekend a chance to enter.

I have thought long and hard about whether to remove the ‘Comment Voting’ selection criteria but have decided against it.

The comment voting system has been in place since Monday when the giveaway started and discontinuing it today, on ‘iPhone Day’, would disadvantage early entrants. So, after much pondering, I’ve decided it should stay.

My understanding is that whilst it seems a number of people are voting comments down, most are voting more than one comment down.

This is having exactly the same effect on the giveaway as voting more than one comment up.

So, as I’ve said earlier, I’ve taken the position that a vote for a comment, whether negative or positive, will be counted as a vote.

Whichever comment gets the most votes, negative or positive at 12 noon on Monday 12th November wins.

If the negative voting gets much worse then I will have to resort to running a simple poll for the most voted comments on Monday.

I’d rather not do this however as I think it will spoil some of the spontaneity of the giveaway so far.

Setting up an additional poll could also mean it takes longer to pick a winner and I personally don’t want this giveaway to drag on forever ;o)

We’ll see how it goes.

As before, the competition is open to anyone wishing to enter world wide but the iPhone will only be delivered to a UK address.

The competition winner will now be announced at 12.30pm on Monday 12th November.

The iPhone will still be purchased from the Apple store in Manchester’s Arndale Centre this evening and will be posted to the competition winner by special delivery on Monday afternoon.

Someone is going to have a very good morning on Tuesday…

So, what are you waiting for? Enter now!

IMHO you should just bin the voting element and just go for the most interesting comment or failing that randomly select a comment. That would be the fairest way to move on.
