Hadouken!!
This is Nathan Keller’s review of PUMA Manchester’s gig featuring grime maestros Hadouken! Nathan won our 5 Day PUMA Manchester Giveaway and was obliged to write a review of the exclusive which you can read here. You can see some pictures he took on our Flickr page.
Nathan writes:
As it is well known Manchester has been the home of some of the most popular and well recognised bands in England such as Oasis, Joy Division and the Happy Mondays to name just a few and thanks to Puma’s hunt for Manchester’s most promising musical talent it was possible to see that this trend is continuing as they invited two of the most promising new bands in Manchester to play Moho Live, opening for no other than Hadouken!.
The venue Moho is a very popular club in Manchester and it is easy to see why as soon as it starts to fill up to capacity as it has the feel of a top notch night club and also the ability to put on fantastic live shows. The venue is quite intimate and the stage is only slightly raised off the floor which is a pleasant change to the other music venues in Manchester as it allowed the audience to get involved and really enjoy the show.
The first band to play are Solarson they did well to get the mood right. It is quite hard to play and get people going when the majority of people are ether getting a drink at the bar or are still arriving at the club. However the band did well to meet the challenge and got people warmed up, they interacted well with the audience, its quite hard to explain their genre of music however they define themselves as Indie/Alternative /Psychedelic which in away explains their performance.
The Sticks were the next up on stage by now most of the audience had arrived and were ready to be entertained and the Sticks certainly did this with their blend of Indie and punk which at times has hints of the greatness of the Artic Monkeys, their set consists of some absolutely fantastic songs such as “You Looked More Beautiful Last Night” and “Make You Mine”. If this performance is anything to go off The Sticks are defiantly going to be one to watch in 2008.
Then finally the band that everyone was waiting for takes to the stage the nu-rave giants Hadouken there presence is met with an almighty roar from the audience who have been waiting for this all night. Hadouken! open with the epic “Get Smashed Gate Crash” however the crowd don’t really get moving and bouncing until the third song “Declaration Of War” were the whole club just erupts and after this there is barely a still person in the whole venue, at this point it is quite obvious why Hadouken have had quite the impact that they have in the British music scene.
From there on in the band just go from strength to strength as the stage presence of the band is just amazing they manage to involve the whole audience and even get several mosh pits going in the small club. One of the definite high points of their performance was their cover of the classic song “Firestarter” and their closing number “That Boy That Girl” overall their set was amazing and just another example of why they are as popular as they are.
So over all the gig was fantastic with a fantastic venue, the ability to see two of the best new bands Manchester has to offer and of course the unforgettable performance of Hadouken!
