Head of Communications and Marketing for NHS Salford joins panel at the Manchester Social Media Surgery
Karl Brookes, Head of Communications & Marketing for NHS Salford is joining our esteemed panel of speakers at the July Manchester Social Media Surgery.
For once, the surgery metaphor is apt in the traditional sense!
An early adopter of many new technologies, Karl has led his team to a position where NHS Salford’s use of social media to engage and communicate with their local population is recognised as pioneering within the healthcare sector.
Karl, recently ‘twitterviewed’ by New Media Age’s Reputation Online editor Vikki Chowney. as announced on regional media and marketing portal, How-Do.co.uk, is behind such pioneering social media for public healthcare engagement initiatives as NHS Salford’s page on Facebook. NHS Salford was on one of the first Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to join Facebook.
Salford PCT, which serves more than 230000 Salfordians and employs over 1200 people, is also active on Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. The trust recently launched a Facebook App to improve football fans’ fitness.
Also speaking will be Adrian Slatcher, (@adrianslatcher on Twitter), Senior Digital Development Officer at Manchester Digital Development Agency (MDDA). MDDA is the lead organisation for the development of the Digital Strategy for Manchester and the surrounding region.
The Social Media Surgery is a free monthly event that attempts to help Manchester businesses embrace the social media revolution in order to grow their company.
Each event features a panel of experienced digital and social media marketers who discuss social media projects and issues presented by the audience.
The informal networking events offer an opportunity to find out how other companies are benefitting from using free social media tools like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to market and grow their businesses.
Sign up to attend the July Social Media Surgery which takes place at Innospace, Manchester Metropolitan University’s business incubator on Tuesday 13th July 2010, from 5:30pm – 7.30pm. More speakers to be added to the line up.
The Social Media Surgery is now LinkedIn!

What do you think of NHS Salford’s YouTube channel?
Here’s a recent video on the channel celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Breath Easy, a support group for people who suffer from breathing disorders such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
