Social Media Usage amongst FTSE 100 companies – Companies 16 To 20: BHP Billiton to Cadbury ADR

Social Media Within FTSE 100 Companies StudySome pleasant surprises in this next instalment of the study on social media usage by FTSE 100 companies.

BSkyB Group, the media conglomerate, ticks all the boxes providing RSS feeds, comprehensive online video and social sharing facilities for content.

Its recent move to add more social networking functionality by launching a Sky Community feature on its digital media properties moves them several steps ahead of the other companies profiled.

Mining conglomerate BHP Billiton also surprised with a clean and accessible website brimming with online video and RSS content.  Being a sponsor of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games appears to help focus a seemingly staid industry leader to improve online consumer engagement.

Contrast that with the lacklustre performance by Antofagasta, another FTSE 100 listed mining corporation studied a few months ago.

Cadbury ADR disappointed somewhat with a demerger of the Cadbury Schweppes brand replacing their social media savvy website at Cadburyschweppes.com with a leaner, less engagement friendly site at Cadbury.com.

BT showed its telecomms roots by providing a slick, well designed site with some social media features.  Unfortunately, it falls short of the standard expected as there are no social sharing facilities.

BP also boasts a clean, accessible site sadly lacking in UK-specific video content.

I’ve updated the write up for each company to include my expectations before I review their site.  Makes for an interesting read!

A full breakdown is included in each ‘company profile’ as are recommendations for improving user engagement by deploying simple social media tools.

Finally, the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed a few aesthetic improvements to the site.  Most notable is the new and improved ‘What is Real Fresh TV?’ section.  Credit is due to the fantastic evaluation provided by Ben Coleman of RealFreeWebsites who evaluated the realfresh.tv website a few weeks ago.  Well worth checking out his services…
