Here come my notes from Tuesday’s Social Media Cafe Manchester event at the BBC’s offices on Oxford Road.
I’ve been a big fan of Social Media Cafe Manchester since being invited to be on the ‘panel of bloggers’ at the very first event in November 2008. Whenever I can I try to blog about each ‘#smc_mcr’ I attend, after the event.

2009: The Year Social Media Becomes Big Business in the UK
Posted on 06. Jan, 2009 by Chi-chi Ekweozor in Social Media Strategies

Or so it would seem.
It’s the season for predictions. From the BBC’s list of hotly tipped bands for 2009 to Wired’s list of tech predictions including a look at the wry miscalculations of yesteryear, this time of year it seems you can’t move for lists of predictions.
I’ll throw one into the mix for good measure. I think that 2009 will be the year social media makes its way into the enterprise in the UK.

That was one of the findings of a fascinating report on Social Network Marketing in the UK sent to me by the author, Tom Chapman of www.socialnetworkmarketinguk.com.
According to the report, UK MySpace users are even less likely to purchase a product or service from a brand’s profile page: 79% of UK MySpace respondents state they would not purchase a product or service from a brand via their profile page.

What Bebo’s Open Media Platform Means For Branded Content Owners
Posted on 14. Nov, 2007 by Chi-chi Ekweozor in Multi-Platform Content

Yesterday, Bebo, the UK’s top social networking site for 13-24 year olds, according to comScore, announced the launch of Open Media, their social video publishing platform which gives each Bebo user a personal TV channel within their profile page on the social network.
High Profile Media Launch
Open Media launched with branded channels from an impressive list of media companies including the BBC, CBS, MTV Networks, ESPN, Channel Four and BSkyB.
Content owners using Open Media are not charged to create branded channels on the platform and can use whichever video player technology they choose.
Content owners can sell video advertising within their branded channel and retain 100% of the revenue generated. Bebo will charge content owners to promote content within the network, however.
