5 Reasons Why Stockport is Set To Shine with Social Media
Posted on 17. Oct, 2008 by Chi-chi Ekweozor in Events, Social Media Strategies
As announced earlier in the week, on Wednesday evening I was thrilled to speak at an event on social networking for business organised by the fledgling Stockport Creative Industries Network.
Over the last year or so, the Creative Industries Development Service (better known as CIDS), one of Greater Manchester’s key creative industry support agencies has been working with Stockport Council to develop a networking forum for creative businesses in the borough.
Wednesday’s event, set rather fittingly amongst Stockport Art Gallery’s Life on Mars exhibition was the first in a second season of networking events designed to bring creative businesses in the area together to discuss and debate key topics and issues affecting the sector.

This is a rather late announcement but I’m delighted to share that I’ll be speaking at the Creative Industries Development Service (CIDS) event at Stockport Art Gallery this evening.
CIDS are a highly respected and important part of the creative industries in the North West and are behind some stellar events. Tonight’s is no exception.
Here’s a synopsis from the Creative Times website:
“This event will be an exploration of the impacts and importance of online social networking . Of relevance to all creative practitioners, these rapidly expanding platforms create new environments increasingly used by business. Featuring speakers Chi-Chi Ekweozor, founder and director of Real Fresh TV and Digital Media Consultant, Maria Stukoff we anticipate a lively, informative, entertaining and provocative evening.”
If you’re planning on coming down, pray leave a comment?
If not, well, I’ll share what I learned tomorrow!

Things have been a bit quiet on the Real Fresh TV blog as I’ve been quite busy this week attending a couple of rather exciting events.
First was PUMA’s long awaited exclusive gig featuring grime maestros Hadouken! at Manchester’s MohoLive.
I met up with Nathan, winner of the 5 Day PUMA Manchester Giveaway online competition we ran for PUMA at the impressively well organized event and Nathan will be posting a gig review on the site shortly. You can see some pictures he took at last night’s gig on our Flickr page.
UK Firms Starting To Embrace Social Media Learning Curve

There has been much online discussion about a recent poll by TNS Media Intelligence/Cymfony which found that just 18 per cent of the UK businesses questioned believed their brands must engage urgently with social media if they were to avoid falling behind the market.
The Financial Times and Marketing Week provide excellent overviews.
As someone analyzing usage of social media amongst FTSE 100 companies in the UK, I have to say the findings come as no surprise.
The Independent Says The Future Is Digital

Last night I had the pleasure of hearing David Greene, Marketing and Circulation Director of leading UK paper, The Independent discuss the newspaper’s digital marketing strategy and its impact on the brand.
The event, organised by Manchester’s Creative Industry Development Service (CIDS), and chaired by Danny Meaney, Managing Director of nmp Ltd, took place in Manchester’s Museum of Science & Industry and also featured a presentation by Sean Singleton, Managing Director of Skive, creative digital agency for The Independent, Gillette, McDonalds, Reebok, BP, Motorola and quite a few others.
David’s talk was highly informative and provided an insight into the effect the digital revolution is having on press and other traditional forms of media in the UK.
