PiratesOfSiliconValleyDVDI was privileged to meet Fred Wilson, prolific blogger and pioneering Internet investor on Friday evening at the Evening with Fred Wilson event at Leeds Metropolitan university’s Old Broadcasting House.

Organised by uber-connected Leeds entrepreneur Imran Ali, the evening took the form of an informal presentation and interactive Q&A session with the co-founder of Union Square Ventures, the New York based venture capital firm behind web services like delicious, Feedburner, Etsy, Disqus and Twitter.

Delicious was sold to Yahoo in 2005 whilst Google bought Feedburner last year.

Building Up To The 5 Day PUMA Manchester Giveaway

So this has been a rather frantic week with lots of developments behind the scenes as we prepare to launch the first 5 Day Giveaway by a major brand. The 5 Day PUMA Manchester launches on Monday 26th May at 9am GMT.

My efforts to get a customised version of a third party blog management system retrofitted to support comment voting have proven unsuccessful so far. I’ve deemed this necessary to combat voter fraud in future giveaways. Maybe I’m being paranoid. We’ll soon find out.

Disqus Turned Off

I’ve uninstalled Disqus, the third-party blog commenting system I installed a week ago on the Real Fresh TV website and blog whilst I investigate alternative Comment Voting systems.

Disqus Feature Request: A Chance To Monetise?

Disqus logoI’ve just installed Disqus, a neat blog comment management system on this site, joining over 4000 blogs.

Disqus is a blog comment management system that effectively turns comments on a blog into a community.

I like Disqus because the profile page provided for each commenter at Disqus.com adds an additional level of accountability to each comment, something I think surpasses its ‘threaded comments’ feature which is what initially attracted me to it.

However, as fantastic as it is, Disqus lacks something I really need:

I’ve just installed Disqus on this blog to handle comments and it was a breeze! Took less than five minutes and didn’t require any changes to the blog….sweet!

I’ll will have to change the Recent Comments section in the side bar to pull data from Disqus but I’m sure it’s nothing myself or our web developer extraordinaire can’t handle…
