New Training Course: Introduction to Social Media for Media Professionals

I’m pretty excited about this!  Starting next month, on Wednesday 10th February to be precise, I will be running a new social media training course aimed squarely at the media industry in the North West.

The new Introduction to Social Media for Media Professionals course, designed specifically for digital media professionals considering use of social media within media projects, builds on Real Fresh TV’s success with the UK’s longest running ’social media for beginners’ course: the Social Media Starter Course.

Along with an assessment of workable strategies for developing multi-platform content, the course concludes with an introduction to the rigours and demands of creating content for multiple platforms.

Read on for details of the course and how to register. (more…)

Social Media Starter Course logo

It’s been a little while since the last Social Media Starter Course but I’m pleased to announce there’s one scheduled for Tuesday 27th October 2009.

Real Fresh TV’s innovative Social Media Starter Course was developed over a year ago and launched in October 2008 as the first dedicated Social Media for Beginners training course in the UK.

It has proven incredibly popular, with academics, marketers, PR companies, photographers and even non-profits attending over the course of the year.

Attendees even requested a more hands-on follow up course, the Learning Social Media By Doing Course which has since been developed.

Here’s some of the fantastic feedback the Social Media Starter Course has received:

Attendees included staff from Salford, Manchester Metropolitan and Manchester universities looking to engage with the local community using social media, the marketing team from online travel and leisure company, iKnow, a community worker from Trafford Metropolitan Borough and a PR/journalist.

It was a pretty mixed group with varying levels of social media experience and knowledge.

Social Media Predictions UK 2009

Or so it would seem.

It’s the season for predictions.  From the BBC’s list of hotly tipped bands for 2009 to Wired’s list of tech predictions including a look at the wry miscalculations of yesteryear, this time of year it seems you can’t move for lists of predictions.

I’ll throw one into the mix for good measure.  I think that 2009 will be the year social media makes its way into the enterprise in the UK.

Social Media Christmas Number One

Earlier this week I shared how Peter Hartey, a recent attendee of the Social Media Starter Course was seeing some fantastic online success around a social media project he launched after attending the course in October.

Hot on the heels of Peter’s good news, I’ve been contacted by another Social Media Starter Course attendee with details of a fascinating social media project, this time featuring a Christmas single!

Liam Walsh of Ask Me PR is currently promoting an inventive musician’s Credit Crunch-themed Christmas single using social media.

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) Poetry Prize 2009

It’s not often I get the opportunity to combine social media with a worthy cause and so I was rather excited to hear that one of the last attendees on the Social Media Starter Course has joined forces with MAG (Mines Advisory Group), the Manchester landline charity, to kick off an ambitious online poetry competition using social media.

Peter Hartey is behind Poetic Republic, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of the poetic arts and humanitarian causes.  Poetic Republic was born out of Poetica, a completely open writing forum based in Central Library, Manchester.
