Using Twitter, TwitBin, TweetScan and the Twitter News Network (TNN)

So on Day 2 of our iPhone Giveaway, I’ve been exploring inner workings of the micropublishing/microblogging phenomenon that is Twitter. I’ve tried out TwitBin, the Twitter Firefox client and it’s fab. So is TweetScan, quite possibly the best Twitter Search Engine there is…

The Twitter News Network (TNN) is Guy Kawasaki’s Truemors site integrated with Twitter to allow anyone to post news articles that show up on Truemors.

Truemors is a site where people suggest both true news and rumours and is an elegant way to waste an afternoon.

So… I can see why Twitter is soo addictive now.

It’s the instant feedback.

And the oh-so-wow gratification of communicating directly with early adopters, mac heads, new media experts and social media way-ahead types.

After just 2 days we are following and being followed by top tech blogger Robert Scoble, well known French web 2.0 entrepreneur Loic Le Meur, New Media Jim, respected web strategist, Forrester Research’s Jeremiah Owyang and 10 or more other Web 2.0 visionaries. I don’t quite know what that means but it felt good writing it.

We are following lots of others including the BBC, Engagdget, Techmeme, Mashable and lots of top tech blogs and news sites. For a quick update on what’s happening in the world, there’s nothing else quite like it.

And there’s the serendipitous nature of meeting like-minds.

I’ve just met DonMcAllister of ScreenCastsOnline. Whilst discussing the lack of iPhone posters and TV advertisements in the UK he informed me that he would be heading down to an Apple store on Friday to buy his *second* iPhone!

Perhaps I should have asked him to pay for the one we’re giving away instead :o )

Kidding…

On second thoughts, I might just head over to Twitter and do that. ;o)

This thing is real, folks.

Twitter = Instant connection + Instant feedback + Instant gratification

Our web dev guru is kitting out the Real Fresh TV site with full featured Twitter integration using Twitter Tools. So you should be able to listen into our conversations right here in the side bar.

In the mean time, head over to twitter.com/realfreshtv and follow us…

What’s your opinion on Twitter? Are you a believer? Or a skeptical non-convert?

Would be interesting to find out what people think, especially any who, like me, have just crossed the divide. For those thinking about making the leap, Caroline Middlebrook‘s Twitter Guide is a must read.

Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks so much for mentioning Tweet Scan. We’ve only just gotten started so it means a lot to get a good review like that. Thanks again.

    @ David Sterry:

Sincere apologies for the delayed response.

    TweetScan is brilliant. End of.

    Keep up the good work.

If you want some future coverage on TweetScan here, drop me a line with info on audience reach, stats and use.

I’m sure loads of people would be interested in learning how people are searching on Twitter.

Are you thinking about integrating TweetScan with WordPress, like TwitterTools integrates Twitter with WP?

    That would be neat.
